French Doors FAQs

What are the benefits of French doors?

French doors instantly add elegance and traditional design to any home. These replacement door styles are attractive, functional, and allow maximum natural light into your living space.

French doors are installed to open toward the inside of the house. In addition, both sides of the door open as opposed to only one.

How are French doors constructed?

A French door is a door that has multiple lites, or pieces of glass that are cut and fit for the full length of the door. French doors made of double-pane glass may have the decorative grill embedded between the panes. The decorative grill may also be superimposed on top of a single pane of glass in the door. Also, French doors can have decorative patterns cut into the glass for an elegant touch.

Do French doors allow light inside your home?

French doors are of light construction, usually installed in pairs, with divided glass panes extending most of their length. They are esteemed for their visual grace and their ability to transmit light between spaces even when closed. Many homeowners are choosing French doors because they add a unique feel of grace to a living or dining room, create an open-air look, and help to better the access between rooms within a home.

What are French doors?

French doors are known for their long, rectangular window panes that fit across the entire door. French doors are considered patio doors although both panels function as a normal door. French doors are good for adding more light to a room.

How do you measure French doors?

To measure your french doors, start measuring at the inside of the door opening. Then, measure the width, length, and height of the door frame. Since both sides of the door open, you also need to measure how wide the doors swing.

How do you lock French doors?

To lock French doors, use the Window World Multi-point lock system for an added layer of security.

Do French doors have screens?

French doors normally do not include screens because they are not part of the original design. However, you can add a screen to a french door so you can leave them open without letting in insects.

Do French doors open in or out?

French doors can open either inward or outward. When you choose Window World of Jersey Coast for your installation, we set your doors to open inward for a smooth transition from room to room.

How do you hang curtains on French doors?

To hang curtains on french doors, you need to find curtains that exceed the length of the window to cover the top and bottom of the window pane. Otherwise, you follow the normal curtain installation instructions of installing a curtain rod and attaching the curtains to the rod.

Window World did a great job on my home. I had new windows put in, a new front door, a new back door and a patio door. The workers were very polite, very courteous and very thorough. This is my second house that Window World has done all the windows. I would give them six stars if possible.

Overall FANTASTIC Experience. This is the second house I have had done and could not be happier. We replaced all the windows and 1 set of doors in a 20 year old house. From the initial estimate on everything was straightforward and upfront. No hidden charges or bogus rebates.

I’ve had a really great experience working with Window World. The salesman put NO pressure on me to buy, but he was ready to answer all my questions.
